Let's Get It On was Marvin Gaye's 12th studio album and the sultry, seductive material turned him into a sex icon. The album was also his most commercially successful, peaking at number two in Billboard, spending 61 weeks in total on the chart and going on to sell over a million copies in the US. The material, a trademark blend of Gaye's funk, pop, doo-wop and smooth soul, contained Gaye's most sexually-suggestive lyrics of his career as exemplified by the title song, a number one single.
Now, for its 50th Anniversary, the legendary album is given a Super Deluxe treatment, expanding the release to a whopping 5-disc set. The 33 bonus tracks on this collection document the six intense months of recording sessions that produced the album, including unheard mixes of various songs and material from all those sessions, instrumental tracks, and unreleased versions of the ballad recordings that Gaye returned to repeatedly.
