The composer and pianist Vitalii Kyianytsia, born in the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv in 1991, numbers among those “border crossers” who combine the voices heard in them with plenty of fine taste and feeling for fascinating total phenomena. Currently thirty-one years of age, Kyianytsia has resided in Germany since 2017 and studied with the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt am Main as well as with the British pianist Nicolas Hodges in Stuttgart. Over the years Kyianytsia increasingly focused on his delight in improvisation, so that he eventually was transformed into an enthused and enthusing “jazzer” – but not such a one who denies his classical training or his intimate relationship with the great masters of piano music. Night Music, a cycle of twelve pieces, is this young artist’s first solo production. Touches of Alexander Scriabin and Claude Debussy and slight reminiscences of Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann, and Sergei Rachmaninov blend with the brilliant sparkle and virtuosity of Jazz Age figures, and sensuous Latin American beats alternate with the fleeting fragrances of Impressionism.
