Canticum Naturale can be described as a tone poem about the Amazon. The very modern-sounding, cluster-like Estro Armonico leads to the likewise modern (but quite accessible) and highly dramatic Tres Imagens de Nova Friburgo. The longest piece, Ludus Symphonicus, is expressive and variedly structured, as well as tonally effective. Krieger certainly knew how to make an orchestra sound good.
