Max Reger's chorale fantasias are among the most important works in the repertoire for organ - a masterful combination of chorale melodies and programmatic music based on the text of the chorales. Reger composed all seven chorale fantasias after a life and creative crisis between 1898 and 1900 in his parents' house in Weiden.
For his recording, Winfried Lichtscheidel has chosen the large four-manual organ of the parish church in Landsberg am Lech, which, following extensive renovation, is one of the most important, modern and attractive symphonic organs in Europe and is in demand by concert organists from all over the world.
