The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is releasing American Dreams in celebration of Louis Langrée’s final season as Music Director of the CSO. Langrée’s love of Cincinnati, history and the cultural exchange between France and America are at the core of this album. Each of the composers featured has a deep connection to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Gershwin appeared as a guest pianist in 1927 with the CSO and two years later traveled to Cincinnati to oversee a performance of his An American in Paris. Edward K. (“Duke”) Ellington appeared with the CSO in 1966, then in 1970, recorded a collection of his orchestral music with the CSO. Bernstein appeared as conductor and soloist with the CSO many times in the 1940s, and once on tour to Carnegie Hall in 1977. Ellington’s Night Creature features pianist Courtney Bryan.
