"... the daunting improvs on standard melodies are downright robust ... the master's Tatumesque rococoisms are offset by some Bud-like oomph and this set is all the more persuasive because of it ..." - Musician Travelin' On is the final volume in a six-album series called Exclusively for My Friends which Oscar Peterson made in the 1960s and is considered among the pianist's finest recordings. All the albums in the set are included in The Penguin Guide to Jazz's list of essential "Core Collection" albums and are widely considered the centerpiece of any Peterson collection. This private recording for a small, invited audience took place in 1968 with Peterson's trio, Sam Jones on double bass and Bobby Durham on drums. The performance documents Peterson’s exquisite playing style in near-audiophile sound, the original master tapes carefully optimized in a pure analogue mastering process. The album takes its title from the lead track, the old gospel favorite Travelin' On delivered here with passion, while Peterson also presents a beautiful treatment of Johnny Mandel's timeless ballad Emily, which runs for over ten minutes.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
