Digital Booklet
On their most recent recording, the renowned Molinari Quartet dives into the complete string quartets of the iconoclastic Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988). An extraordinary creator recognized for his experimental approach, Scelsi experienced two major periods of musical production: the first from 1929 until the mid-1950s, which included a period when he took refuge in Switzerland, and the second, until his death in 1988. During the first period, his writing was inspired by the composers of the Second Vienna School and in particular by Schoenberg with whom he studied in Vienna. His works are then dodecaphonic, atonal or serial. During the second period, he experienced a serious existential crisis and stopped composing for a few years. When he finally resumed writing, he concentrated on the monody. The melodies give way in favor of timbre plays, now the center of Scelsi's musical concerns. The album also includes his most controversial work, his 1958 String Trio in four movements and each of them centered on a single note. Rhythmic simplicity allows him to focus his writing on colors and textures.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
