"Moody, small ensemble jazz session with interesting ideas ..."
- The Baltimore Sun
"... loose, utterly relaxed sessions where the rhythm section settled in a happy groove behind the singer and the hornmen are free to say their piece …"
- DownBeat
One of the last studio albums Holiday recorded before her death, the familiar standards here are given her unique twist. The material as interpreted by Holiday is haunting and brooding, yet rich and expressive all at the same time. Holiday worked with a small combo of jazz all-stars on this session which included a reunion with musicians she had worked with in the 1930s and 1940s. Fans of "Lady Day" consistently rate this album as an excellent start to building an essential Billie Holiday collection.
