"… a modern reading that is monumental but never melodramatic.” - BBC Music Magazine "... The Concertgebouw plays magnificently, the slow movement is simply gorgeous and the finale rises to one of the most frightening climaxes yet captured. The sonics are also very good, if not perhaps state-of-the-art ..." - ClassicsToday.com This live recording presents chief conductor Mariss Jansons with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in two works that reflect totally different philosophies of life. Even though they were lifelong friends, there was a great contrast between Arthur Honegger and Francis Poulenc, two members of the French group of composers known as Les Six. The two religious compositions that are recorded here are also extremely different in character: Honegger’s Symphonie liturgique is filled with sombre warnings, while Poulenc’s ecstatic Gloria is unequivocally joyous.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
