"Four Stars. The most striking thing about these fine performances is their seductive combination of tonal warmth and sparkling virtuoso finesse ... Gergiev conjures up an intoxicatingly languorous soundworld, fully indulging its glittering palette of orchestral colours ..."
- Classic FM

"Four Stars ... Gergiev certainly adds to his laurels with fantastic conducting here ... bringing out the colour and dynamics while highlighting every small detail. With his control of the orchestra he makes every bar a real event ... he is more precise and sharply-focused than most of the other versions ..."
- Audiophile Audition

Valery Gergiev was lauded for his 2008 album of Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet with the LSO; on this live album recorded a year later the conductor and orchestra further show their facility for music from the theatre with this stunning performance of Ravel's score for the ballet Daphnis et Chloé. Essentially an extended tone poem, the score is suffused with luscious orchestral colours, portraying the passion of the two protagonists for each other. The programme is completed with Ravel's Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte and the fiery showpiece Boléro, highlighting the Spanish influences that pervade a number of the composer's works.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
