Often credited with resurrecting the fortunes of Disney Studios, The Little Mermaid was a massive box office hit in 1989 and the soundtrack proved equally successful: with sales exceeding six million copies in the US alone, the music by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman won Academy Awards, a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe. This double album reissue features the original music from the film, never before released demos and working tapes from Menken and Ashman.
