Digital Booklet
"Moanin' is one of the most influential and important hard bop albums due to its outstanding compositions, arrangements and personnel." - All About Jazz Drummer Art Blakey founded the Jazz Messengers to both inspire and mentor young jazz players, as well as to keep Blakey inspired and full of new ideas. The quintet on this album consisted of Blakey on drums, trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, bassist Jymie Merritt and pianist Bobby Timmons. Veteran jazz writer Dan Ouellette says this album "stands as one of jazz’s all-time recordings, largely because of its tunes." Includes the biggest hit of Blakey's long career, the title track Moanin' which was composed by then 22-year-old pianist Timmons. “I’m gonna stay with the youngsters. When these get too old I’ll get some younger ones. Keeps the mind active.” - Art Blakey

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
