Award-winning Spanish Baroque violinist Lina Tur Bonet leads her ensemble Musica Alchemica on this presentation of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber's intriguing Rosary Sonatas (or Mystery Sonatas), fully rising to the challenge of this difficult and technically complex music. These pieces are unlike anything else in the violin literature, with scordatura, or unconventional instrument tuning, exhaustively explored in the cycle: each sonata calls for a different tuning and represents one of the Catholic Rosary Mysteries.
