This 2013 recording is one of the last volumes in Vasily Petrenko’s highly celebrated complete Shostakovich symphony cycle with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, a project started in 2009 and completed in 2014. The individual albums remain leading choices amongst collectors and critics and in many cases have become reference versions of these symphonies.
