"... violinists Gidon Kremer and Patricia Kopatchinskaja (are) both sensational players with huge personalities ..." - The Guardian "Four Stars ... (Twilight) has long, extended moments of great beauty and a sense of transformation, not resignation. It is an altogether lovely work ... Kancheli is a truly unique composer ..." - Audiophile Audition Chiaroscuro from the Kremerata Baltica chamber ensemble marks composer Giya Kancheli's 80th birthday and features premiere recordings of two major works: the title piece Chiaroscuro for violin and chamber orchestra and Twilight for two violins and chamber orchestra. Ensemble leader Gidon Kremer is joined by Patricia Kopatchinskaja on Twilight, bringing together two of the most powerfully expressive violinists of our era. The piece is a touching meditation on mortality, written at a time when Kancheli was recovering from illness and seeing in the leaves and branches of poplar trees outside his window a metaphor for change and transformation.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
