Alberto Ginastera is considered one of the three leading composers to emerge from Argentina in the 20th century, along with Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla, who all gave the country an unique musical voice. Of the three, Ginastera was the only purely classical composer and this programme provides an expansive overview of his career and music. The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under Karl-Heinz Steffens covers three distinct periods of Ginastera's writing and performs works from Ginastera's early, mid and late days, clearly delimited in time.
