Digital Booklet
"... generally excellent, as are ECM’s sonics ... it’s impossible to deny Schiff’s commanding stature as a Bach pianist or his ability to shape this music exactly as it pleases him. Chances are he will please you as well." - ClassicsToday.com "Schiff now attacks where (Glenn) Gould was strongest, in the Goldberg Variations and he beats, or at least equals, him here, thereby gaining entrée to space on top of the tallest column in the Bach district of Parnassus ..." - MusicWeb International "Admirers of his piano style will know what to expect; the way in which he shapes the very first bars of the theme will seem subtlely poetic ... admire the constant finesse of the playing, the delicately coloured range of sounds he draws from his Bösendorfer and the musicianship that informs every phrase." - The Guardian This highly-praised album was recorded at a live performance by pianist András Schiff in October 2001 in Basel, Switzerland, his second time tackling these landmark pieces. Critics have dubbed this album Schiff's "new and improved" performance of the Goldberg Variations. "This is one of those few journeys that can be repeated again and again." - András Schiff

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
