Digital Booklet
"Four Stars ... his melodic sense is acute and original, his narratives and harmonies varied and his pacing subtle ... Arborescence has a low lights feel, but its musicality and lyricism glows very brightly." - The Guardian "... this expansive, impressionistic outing sounds like a vision quest ... Parks wanders through dreamlike landscapes, unafraid to have ideas before he knows what they are. Moments of realization throughout bring these improvisations into focus, with transient cadences, lyrical upwellings and shifts in rhythm ..." - JazzTimes.com Young prize-winning pianist Aaron Parks titled this album Arborescence to indicate that the music is the fruit of a session of solo studio improvisation in which little was predetermined; the pieces developed in the moment like “living things,” the branches of a tree, for example. It’s possible to hear fleeting echoes of Arvo Pärt and Paul Bley, Erik Satie and Kenny Wheeler, but Arborescence is ultimately something deeply individual and intimate. Listen closely to hear Parks whispering part of a melody along with the piano, as if he were playing at home alone, for himself. This is contemplative instrumental poetry that “often felt less like conscious intention,” Parks says, “and more like something half-dreamed, half-remembered.”

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
