Grammy Award nomination - Best Alternative Music Album, 1992
"... 1952 Vincent wins the prize for fusing his sound and storytelling into a glorious example of what one guy can accomplish with just a guitar, a voice, an imagination and a set of astonishingly nimble fingers ... takes you to the emotional edge of love and theft, then soars right over it."
- TIME
"... the sound doesn't let us down ... I Misunderstood features a striking mix of a natural vocal track with an almost comically huuuuuge bass and drums which will shake the cobwebs off your woofers ... Don't Sit On My Jimmy Shands should be required listening for all audiophiles. At least twice a week ... a brilliant album, but hardly an easy one."
- Stereophile
This Grammy nominated album from Richard Thompson is one of his most beloved and contains his classic 1952 Vincent Black Lightning, often-covered and included on TIME's list of the 100 greatest songs of all time.
"When I was a kid, (the Vincent Black Lightning) was always the exotic bike, that was always the one, the one that you went 'ooh, wow.' I'd always been looking for English ideas that didn't sound corny, that had some romance to them and around which you could pin a song. And this song started with a motorcycle, it started with the Vincent. It was a good lodestone around which the song could revolve."
