Award-winning vocal group I Fagiolini celebrates its 30th anniversary and its love of French music with this release, offering a rich variety of 20th century choral delicacies, a departure from the ensemble's previous recordings of Italian Renaissance works. Arranged as a tasting menu, the programme includes world premieres of Jean Françaix’s humorous but beautiful Ode à la gastronomie for 12 voices, Darius Milhaud's Deux poèmes and a moving arrangement of the Adagio from Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major by Roderick Williams for piano and voices.
"I completely and utterly adore this repertoire. It feels as much a part of me as any Monteverdi madrigal. The sensuality of the language, the shifting sands of harmony that the Poulenc and the Lesur are sometimes written around. It just feels very warm and chaleureux and something that I Fagiolini feels very comfortable with in a very good and slightly dangerous way."
- Robert Hollingworth, I Fagiolini director
