This second album from New York-based The Hot Sardines features music first made famous decades ago, reinvented and brought to life by the group's brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies and vocals from a chanteuse who evokes a different era with the mere lilt of her voice. On French Fries & Champagne, The Hot Sardines broadens its already impressive palette, combining covers and originals that effortlessly channel New York speakeasies, Parisian cabarets and New Orleans jazz halls. Emmy-winning actor Alan Cumming, a fan of The Hot Sardines, joins vocalist Elizabeth Bougerol on a mischievous take of When I Get Low I Get High, a song popularized by Ella Fitzgerald. The band even upends Robert Palmer’s 1985 classic Addicted To Love with cool vocals and hot horn arrangements.
