Digital Booklet
"It's the faster movements which come off most convincingly (in the Faschingsschwank), with the pianist finding the right combination of accentuation and momentum ... McCawley produces some beautiful sounds ..." - Gramophone "... his expressive directness and unfussily supple phrasing is especially effective in Kinderszenen. He eschews self-indulgence ... yet beneath the surface there is plenty going on, small details of voicing and phrasing and little emphases that speak more on repeated listening." - BBC Music Magazine Leon McCawley continues his exploration of 19th century repertoire with this recital album dedicated to the piano music of Robert Schumann. McCawley begins with the delightful five movement Faschingsschwank aus Wien, which unusually falls between the structure of a suite and a sonata. The Kinderszenen is strongly evocative of the time, when Schumann and his beloved Clara were being forcibly kept apart by Clara’s father. Concluding the programme are the Études symphoniques, undoubtedly among his most important piano compositions. McCawley shot into prominence when he won both First Prize in the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna and Second Prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1993, at the age of 19.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
