Mostly remembered for being the subject of a thesis by Anton Webern, the prolific Heinrich Isaac is not the most famous Franco-Flemish composer but nonetheless had a considerable influence on the later rise of polyphony in Germany, where he spent most of his career (and is still very well-regarded by early music ensembles).
This album by pioneering Renaissance ensemble Capella Antiqua München features one of only two existing recordings of the parody mass on “O praeclara”, also called “La mi la sol” (after the name of one of Isaac’s own songs which serves as melodic theme for the mass). The other recording not being available online, this is the first time this work can be heard digitally!
