In addition to being one of Norway's most renowned and sought-after ensembles, the Engegård Quartet has set itself an ambitious goal: to release all of Mozart's string quartets in digital formats. The first release, with Mozart's last three quartets (the so-called "Prussian"), was released at LAWO Classics in 2017, and the second (with so-called "Haydn Quartets") in 2019.
With this release, the quartet completes their recording of the six string quartets that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dedicated to his paternal friend Joseph Haydn. Written in Vienna in Mozart's "mature" years - from the time he was 25 until he died at the age of 36 in 1791 - they are a gift of friends that has hardly any equal. His own son thought he would be immortal even if this was the only thing he had written.
The Engegård Quartet saw the light of day under the midnight sun in Lofoten in 2006. This chamber ensemble quickly became one of the most sought after in Norway. The quartet is known for its many bold and fresh interpretations of the classical repertoire. They have gained great international recognition and are active in concert activities at home and abroad.
